Course Syllabus

Welcome to Media and Technique!  This is a studio course created to assist serious art students to develop competence in differing media.  Students will gain a variety of skills to accurately and effectively use in the progression of the high school art courses.

Course Content:

• Unit 1- Drawing- Basic drawing techniques and materials
• Unit 2- Painting- Watercolor, Gouache, and Acrylic
• Unit 3- Printmaking- Block Printing, Intaglio, Screen-printing
• Unit 4- Ceramics- Slab, Coil, Relief, Glazing
• Unit 5- Sculpture- Additive and Subtractive
• Unit 6- Textiles and Craft- Weaving, Basketry, Metal Embossing, Collage

Course Requirements and Grading:

• Process Portfolio (20%)
• In class exercises dealing with different media and techniques
• Class notes on processes, vocabulary terms, and artists
• Preliminary sketches and brainstorming

• Critiques and Reflections (10%)
• In-class critiques on class projects
• Written reflections at the completion of projects

• Projects (70%)
• Studio projects will be completed withing each unit presented in class
