Current Project: Mixed Media Value Still Life

MIXED MEDIA VALUE STILL LIFE
Standards: 9.1 A-E; 9.2 C,K,L; 9.3 A-G; 9.4 B,D
Media and Technique students learned about value and different types of media (graphite, Sharpie, and charcoal), which are used to show value.  They learned the value techniques used for each different media (sfumatotenebrism, hatching, cross hatching, and stippling).  They were asked to draw a still life using all 3 media and appropriate value techniques in one composition.

Craftsmanship – Image is neat and well presented.  Lines drawn with intent and patience.  Drawing accurately describes the objects and their placement in still life.

Graphite Technique/Value– Accurate renderings of value.
Effective use of ______________ technique.  Form is created through gradual value transitions without using outlines.  Range of values from dark to light with smooth transition between tones.

Charcoal Technique/Value – Accurate rendering of values.
Effective use of ______________technique.  Form is created through dramatic value transitions without using outlines.  High contrast between value, dramatic use of tone.

Sharpie Techniques/Value – Accurate rendering of values.
Effective use of ______________, _____________________,
and/or_______________ technique(s).  Lines are consistent
and ordered.  Range of values from dark to light with gradual change between tones is displayed.

Productivity – Efficient use of class time, project shows your best effort.  Focused and worked quietly and efficiently.

Composition– Entire page filled with imagery.  Interesting set up of 3 value spaces.  Careful attention to detail

Project #2: Line Series

Project #2 will be a series of contour line drawings.
You will be creating 6 line drawings of an object of your choice.

To begin, you will practice by drawing 5 different objects drawing each using contour line and continuous line (10 drawings total)

Once the 10 practice drawings are complete, students will choose ONE object to create their series of drawings.  Remember, part of your grading rubric is on CREATIVITY and choosing a challenging object.  The drawings will demonstrate knowledge using the following 6 line styles:

1. Contour Line - focus on the outer edge of the object and and details withing
2. Continuous Contour Line- object drawn using one solid line, without picking up the pencil
3. Blurred Line- object drawn using pastel to give a blurred effect
4. Contour with Tone- drawing the object and showing the value through line (by adding water to ink to lighten the value)
5. Lyrical- object draw using long, flowy brushstrokes with the ink
6. Aggressive- object is drawn by scratching the image into scratch art paper

Practice on your Media Experimentation sheet first (my example is below)
