Watercolor Project #2: Fish

Standards: 9.1 A-E; 9.2 A-G,J-L; 9.3 A-G; 9.4 B,C,D  

  Media and Technique students learned about watercolor paintsThey then learned the various techniques used for watercolors and also the two types of watercolor paints, watercolor tray and watercolor tubes used to create a watercolor painting.  Students used this knowledge of watercolor techniques and the step-by-step process to create paintings of fish or birds using watercolor tubes.

Craftsmanship – Image is neat and well presented. Watercolors are applied neatly and do not run into adjoining areas.  Watercolors were not splashed onto paper.




Technique– Effective use of media, dark to light values and accurate color matching are represented.  Washes and colors are layered neatly with clean brush strokes. 6 or more techniques were used in the painting.




Color and Value – Tone was accurate to subject matter, use of color layering and mixing to match colors.  Fish and background scenery accurately painted.




Productivity – Efficient use of class time, project shows your best effort.  Focused and worked quietly.




Composition – Entire page filled with imagery.  Enlarged still life to fill page.  Careful attention to detail.

Watercolor Project #1: Fruit Still Life

Standards: 9.1 A-E; 9.2 A-G,J-L; 9.3 A-G; 9.4 B,C,D  

  Media and Technique students learned about watercolor paints and still lifesThey then learned the various techniques used for watercolors and also the process used to create a watercolor painting.  Students used this knowledge of watercolor techniques and the step-by-step process to create paintings of fruit still lifes.

Van Gogh InterpretationStandards: 9.1 A-E; 9.2 A-G,J-L; 9.3 A-G; 9.4 B,C,D  
  Media and Technique students learned about the artist Vincent van Gogh and his style of impasto painting.  Students interpreted van Gogh's paintings and then altered the images to change the story. Students then wrote stories to go along with their own paintings and presented the stories during the critique at the conclusion of the project.

Craftsmanship – Paint is applied neatly and with intent.  Different areas of picture are clearly defined and each area mixes at least two colors.




Technique – Effective use of Impasto technique.  Accurate representation of the various textures in your image.




Color and line –Effective use of color and line to express emotion.  Good choices of each to enhance your imagery to show your interpretation and changes.




Productivity – Efficient use of class time, project shows your best effort.  Took time and worked quietly and   efficiently. 




Composition- Entire page filled with imagery.  Careful attention to detail.  Interpretation fits canvas or canvas was cropped to fit image.
