Introduction to Impasto Painting


Acrylic Paints (Current Project)


Van Gogh InterpretationStandards: 9.1 A-E; 9.2 A-G,J-L; 9.3 A-G; 9.4 B,C,D  
  Media and Technique students learned about the artist Vincent van Gogh and his style of impasto painting.  Students interpreted van Gogh's paintings and then altered the images to change the story. Students then wrote stories to go along with their own paintings and presented the stories during the critique at the conclusion of the project.

Craftsmanship – Paint is applied neatly and with intent.  Different areas of picture are clearly defined and each area mixes at least two colors.




Technique – Effective use of Impasto technique.  Accurate representation of the various textures in your image.




Color and line –Effective use of color and line to express emotion.  Good choices of each to enhance your imagery to show your interpretation and changes.




Productivity – Efficient use of class time, project shows your best effort.  Took time and worked quietly and   efficiently. 




Composition- Entire page filled with imagery.  Careful attention to detail.  Interpretation fits canvas or canvas was cropped to fit image.
